Meeting between the International Labour Organization and Members of Parliament on 11 November 2009
The Directorate of the ILO Subregional Office for the Caribbean received three Members of the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago upon their request, on Wednesday  11 November 2009 in the ILO Office in Port of Spain. Dr.  Roodal Moonilal, MP for Oropouche East, Mr. Harry Partap, MP for Cumuto/Manzanilla, and Senator Wade Mark made known their concerns about labour migration and a number of labour issues. There was a very useful exchange of views and information on the management of labour migration, working conditions, including occupational safety and health, and international labour standards, all of which are issues relating to the Decent Work Agenda.  (13 November 2009)

ILO Director-General welcomes Business Leaders’ Declaration on International Trade and Economic Recovery at Davos
GENEVA (ILO news) – ILO Director-General Juan Somavia welcomed a statement adopted by the International Business Council (IBC) of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Mr. Somavia underlined the statement's call for "a focus on a jobs-led recovery. Increasing trade flows will be crucial. We must reinforce the role of international trade as an engine for growth and development. The benefits will be even greater when coordinated with coherent employment and social policies”. ILO GLOBAL EMPLOYMENT TRENDS 2010 - UNEMPLOYMENT REACHED HIGHEST LEVEL ON RECORD IN 2009.  SOMAVIA CALLS FOR THE SAME POLICY DECISIVENESS THAT SAVED BANKS TO SAVE
AND CREATE JOBS

GENEVA (ILO News) - The number of jobless worldwide reached nearly 212 million in 2009 following an unprecedented increase of 34 million compared to 2007, on the eve of the global crisis, the International Labour Office (ILO) said in its annual Global Employment Trends report . */  Based on IMF economic forecasts, the ILO estimates that global unemployment is likely to remain high through 2010. In the Developed Economies and European Union unemployment is projected to increase by an additional 3 million people in 2010, while it will stabilize at present levels, or decline only slightly, in other regions. GENEVA – (ILO News) The International Labour Organization (ILO) will assess the impact of the devastating earthquake in Haiti on key services, industries and other facilities and mobilize its resources to support job-creation and reconstruction efforts as they develop, working in close cooperation with United Nations and other partners.
