Technical Specialist/Focal Point on HIV/AIDS and the World of Work

The majority of persons infected by HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean fall within the age-group 15-49: the most productive section of the workforce in any society.

Ms. Supersad is responsible for promoting, in the Region, a world of work response to the epidemic based on the decent work principles of the ILO and guided by the ILO Code of Practice on HIV/AIDS and the world of work. Such a response incorporates the protection of the human rights of the infected and affected workers, prevention education and care and support. Ms. Supersad provides support and guidance to governments, employers and trade unions in the development of HIV/AIDS workplace policies and programmes.

Ms. Supersad joined the Caribbean Subregional Office on 8 March 2004. Prior to that, she was the Director of Research and Planning at the Ministry of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development, Trinidad and Tobago. She also served as the representative of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago on the Governing Body of the ILO for the 1999 – 2002 triennium.
