Title: Training Workshop on Reporting on International Labour Standards for Selected Countries in the Caribbean
Date: 27 February - 2 March 2007, Roseau, Dominica
Purpose:
This meeting is meant to provide hands-on training and assistance to representatives of the Ministries of Labour that are responsible for preparing reports on ratified ILO Conventions to the ILO’s Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations (CEARC). Four representatives of workers’ organizations (2) and employers’ organizations (2) will also be invited to attend so as to get training on the reporting process and the inputs needed from them.

Title: Developing campaigns for the ratification of ILO Conventions for Trade Unions in the Agriculture and Hotel Sectors in the Caribbean
Date: 5-7 March 2007, Barbados
Purpose:
To inform on conventions applicable to workers in the hotel and agricultural sectors and not yet ratified by the countries; To develop trade union strategies for incorporating principles and rights covered by these conventions into collective bargaining agreements; To develop campaigns for the eventual ratification of these conventions

Title: Training Workshop on Reporting on ILO Conventions 138 and 182 for countries participating in the subregional project “Combating the Worst Forms of Child Labour in the Caribbean”
Date:
6-9 March 2007, Kingston, Jamaica
Purpose: At the end of the training activity, the participants will have increased their capacity to better understand:

  • the international labour standards system procedures and, in particular, its supervisory mechanisms;
  • the content and obligations deriving from the ratification of C.138 and C.182 and how to better report to the ILO on their implementation; and
  • the importance of key stakeholders’ coordination to define and put in place a national policy to better structure and submit the information necessary for the supervision of the application of C.138 and C.182.

Title: National Behaviour Change Communication Workshop
Date: 26-29 March 2007, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
Purpose:

Title: National Workshop to Develop a Workplace Policy on HIV/AIDS for Trade Unions
Date: 26-29 March 2007, St. Kitts-Nevis
Purpose:
  The workshop's objective is to sensitize members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union (SKNTLU) about HIV and AIDS and to draft a trade union policy which would guide the union's work in this area.

Title: National trade union workshop on the Decent Work Agenda and ILO Core Conventions
Date: 10-20 April, 2007, Jamaica
Purpose:   
These courses are aimed at exposing participants to the roles and functions of the ILO, informing on the Decent Work concept and how the principles enshrined in the ILO Core Conventions are implemented towards achieving equality in workers' conditions globally and within the context of a fair globalization.

Title: National employer workshop on Small Enterprise Development in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME)
Date: 18-19 April, 2007, St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Purpose:   
Following participation in the Tripartite Caribbean Employment Forum in Barbados, in October 2006, the Saint Vincent Employers' Federation (SVEF) has reviewed a series of decent work agenda topics that they would like to promote/advocate amongst their membership.  The SVEF is equipping itself as a social partner to contribute to a decent work country programme and will focus on SME Development in the new CARICOM Single Market environment at this workshop.

Title: National trade union workshop for women in the trade union movement
Date: 23-27 April, 2007, The Bahamas
Purpose:   
These two workshops are aimed at greater participation of women in the trade union movement and will focus on maternity protection, sexual harassment, and HIV and AIDS in the workplace.  The workshops will be held in Nassau and Freeport so as to reach a larger audience of women trade unionists from the affiliates of the National Congress of Trade Unions.

Title: National employer workshop on Modern Industrial Relations Practices
Date: 24-25 April, 2007, Grenada
Purpose:   
This training intervention is subsequent to recommendations proposed in the research project completed by the Grenada Employers’ Federation (GEF) in 2006.  The GEF Board endorsed the findings that in order to take the GEF forward for serviceability and sustainability, more interaction with members, through IR training and other services on practical matters are of immediate importance to guide and advise their members.   The workshop objectives are to provide participants with a better understanding of Industrial Relations aspects such as Collective bargaining and Negotiating Skills and to assist members who may be engaged in negotiations and other such consultations with their employees and/or trade unions.

Title: 6th Meeting of Ministers of Labour of the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean -- The Role of the Ministry of Labour in Realizing the Decent Work Agenda for the Caribbean
Place and Dates: 15-16 May, 2007, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Purpose:
The Subregional Meeting of Ministers of Labour of the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean provides an opportunity for the Ministers to:

·     be fully briefed on items on the agenda of the International Labour Conference to be held in Geneva in June 2007, to allow discussion of those items and to formulate a Caribbean position on those items;

·     be fully briefed on items on the agenda of the “2nd preparatory meeting for the Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labour” (to be held in July 2007) in which the labour dimensions of free trade agreements will be debated;

·     be fully briefed on items on the agenda of the “Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labour” (to be held 11-13 September 2007) to allow discussion of those items and to formulate Caribbean positions on those items; and

·     to discuss the establishment of a “social floor” within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and recent trends in migration.

Title: Subregional Capacity-building Workshop on Labour Legislation for ILO member States belonging to the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)
Date: 22-25 May, 2007, Castries, Saint Lucia
Purpose:   
The purpose of the workshop is threefold:

Title: ILO/National AIDS Co-ordinating Committee training workshop on HIV/AIDS and rights at work for HIV/AIDS focal points in Ministries and enterprises
Date: 28-29 May, 2007, Trinidad and Tobago
Purpose:  
The goal of the workshop is to enhance participants’ understanding of HIV/AIDS and fundamental principles and rights at work, and strengthen their capacity to effectively lead an HIV/AIDS workplace response within their organizations. The objectives include orienting participants to the concerns of persons living with HIV in the workplace and in society and increasing knowledge of international labour standards and the rights of workers as they relate to HIV/AIDS including knowledge of the ILO Code of Practice on HIV/AIDS and the world of work and the ability to develop and implement a world of work policies and programmes addressing HIV and AIDS.

Title: National trade union workshop for members of Grenada Trades Union Council
Date: 5-7 June, 2007, Grenada
Purpose:  
This workshop targets Grenada Trades Union Council's leaders and activists in the area of HIV/AIDS for a sensitization, and updating on the situation in Grenada as well as drafting of a trade union policy on HIV and AIDS.

Title: Caribbean Academy for the Management of Employers’ Organizations (CAMEO): A Subregional Capacity-Building Programme for National Employers’ Organizations of the Caribbean
Date: 25-29 June, 2007, Jamaica
Purpose:  T
he ILO introduces the first subregional capacity-building programme under the banner: Caribbean Academy for the Management of Employers’ Organizations (CAMEO). The five-day programme is being conducted for Caribbean National Employers’ Organizations (NEOs) in collaboration with ILO's Bureau for Employers' Activities (ACTEMP) ; ILO International Training Centre, Turin, Italy; ILO Subregional Office for the Caribbean; and the Mona School of Business of the University of the West Indies (UWI).   The Programme is patterned after the popular “ILGO” Programme on the Management of NEOs currently conducted annually through the ILO Subregional Office for Central America (San Jose) for NEOs in Spanish-speaking countries in the Americas region.  The modular training package: “The Effective Employers’ Organization” recently produced for ILO ACTEMP by the University of Geneva International Organizations MBA (Ref: ILO ACT/EMP 44) will serve as the primary training materials to cover the broad themes of Governance, Strategy, Advocacy, and Revenue-building.   Case studies from selected Caribbean NEOs will be used to interchange experiences and best practices to tailor the broad themes and other topics relevant to present-day national and regional developments in the Caribbean.
