GENEVA (ILO News) – The Director-General of International Labour Organization (ILO) Juan Somavia has expressed his satisfaction that three renowned economists have been awarded the 2010 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel for their work on issues of central concern to the ILO. St. Vincent and the Grenadines advances in implementation of new labour market information system
A new labour market information system for St. Vincent and the Grenadines will soon be on the horizon for use by policymakers, employers and job seekers.  The system is the initiative of the Labour Department of the Ministry of Urban Development, Labour, Culture and Electoral Matters, with technical support provided by the International Labour Organization's Office for the Caribbean and the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD).  (14 October 2010)

Today we stand in solidarity with millions of women and men and their families caught in the grip of poverty, wishing and striving to rise above it. This year’s theme “From poverty to decent work: Bridging the gap" reminds us that the opportunity for women and men to work in conditions of freedom, dignity, security and equity is the most effective, sustainable way to escape poverty.
