Maritime Labour Convention: Belize ratifies the ILO Maritime Labour Convention, 2006
On 8 July 2014, the Government of Belize deposited with the International Labour Office the instrument of ratification of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006). Belize is the 62nd ILO member State and the eighth Member State of the Ocean Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control in the Caribbean Region to have ratified this Convention. Belize’s merchant fleet consists of vessels of over 1.8 million gross tons in total. This ratification brings to 50 the total number of ILO Conventions ratified by Belize. (21 Jul 2014)

Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, Secretary General of CARICOM addresses the 26th Meeting of the Council For Human and Social Development (COHSOD) on Labour and Gender at the CARICOM Headquarters in Guyana. ILO thanked for its assistance to the tripartite constituents in support of its promotion of Decent Work. (15 May 2014)


Training Programme on Anticipating Skills Needs FOR REPRESENTATIVES OF tvet, nta AND TOURISM INSTITUTIONS TO BE CONDUCTED
The ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean and the Inter-American Centre for Knowledge Development in Vocational Training (ILO/Cinterfor), with the support of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) and the National Industrial Training Service (SENAI), Brazil, will be hosting a joint Workshop on Anticipating Skills Requirements in Tourism: Occupational Trends and Emerging Demands at the ACS Secretariat in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on May 6th and 7th, 2014.
