BACKGROUND:
The Tripartite Caribbean
Employment Forum will be held in Barbados, at the Hilton Barbados from
the 10 to 12 October 2006. The Forum is being organized by the
International Labour Organization, Subregional Office for the Caribbean
in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Civil Service, Government
of Barbados.
The theme of the
Forum is: “Responding to globalization: A decent work agenda for the
Caribbean in the context of regional integration.”
The Forum will
bring together high-level representatives of governments, employers’ and
workers’ organizations, other national and regional stakeholders and also
bilateral and multilateral development partners.
The aims of
the Forum are:
1.
to focus on ways in which
creating jobs, while promoting respect for rights, social protection, and
social dialogue, can be made central to social and economic development
strategies at the national and regional levels;
2.
to raise awareness of the
Decent Work Agenda, and to discuss the modalities for key stakeholders to
cooperate in making Decent Work a key goal of economic policy, and part of
the response to the challenges of globalization; and
3.
to discuss, with a view to
adopting, a Plan of Action for achieving noticeable concrete results in a
few priority areas.

MEETING LOGISTICS: Hotel Accommodation:
The Tripartite Caribbean Employment Forum will be held at the Hilton
Barbados in the Ballroom. The Hilton Barbados has blocked a number of rooms
at a negotiated preferential rate for use by the participants attending the
Forum. It is highly recommended that participants stay at the Hilton
to maximize the benefits of the Meeting. Transportation:
The Government of Barbados will be providing transportation for participants
to and from the airport. All flight details, including changes, must
be made available to the ILO Subregional Office for the Caribbean in order
to facilitate these arrangements.
Registration: Registration of participants will begin on Monday, 9 October
2006 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, 10 October 2006 from 7:00
a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Hibiscus Room,
which will serve as the Secretariat room during the Forum.
Opening Ceremony: The Opening Ceremony of the Forum will begin at 8:30 a.m. on
Tuesday, 10 October 2006 in the Hilton Barbados Ballroom. All participants
are kindly requested to be seated by 8.15 a.m.
Publications Display: A display of ILO publications and other materials will
commence from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 10 October 2006 and from
10:45 a.m. for the duration of the Forum. ILO publications and other
materials can be purchased (cash only) during the Forum.
Internet Access: Please note that rooms at the Hilton Barbados are wired for
high-speed internet access for a fee of US$ 14.95 per day payable directly
to the Hotel. Alternatively, a few computers with internet access are
available at the Hotel’s business centre for a fee of US$10.00 per hour. |
